Jack Starks
Jack has pushed words all around the world, working as a Senior Writer for agencies in London and Melbourne. He was the Head of Brand Language for Orange, and then went on to manage their advertising team.
He put two years in as a director at Fallon London in 2010, before starting Writing Club with Ed Sowerby in 2014.
Ed Sowerby
Ed’s an award-winning writer with over 15 years under his belt. He actually started life as a brand manager for Nestle, fretting about Easter Eggs. But in 2006 he switched to writing at The Writer, then became senior writer at London creative agency, Figtree.
He went freelance in 2010, earning himself a Masters in Environmental Technology, before starting Writing Club with Jack Starks in 2014.
Jack Wells
Jack the Second started out with a couple of years of marketing Coca-Cola at BD Network, before switching to become the in-house copywriter for Urban Outfitters Europe.
He joined Writing Club as a freelancer in 2015, before joining the club fully in 2016.
Jim Pout
Jim has been part of the club since 2018, working with clients ranging from Atomic to Rolex. He also writes film screenplays. Sometimes they become actual films.
Polly Lavelle
Polly has worked in a lot of interesting places. She’s been head of media for a group of Michelin-starred restaurants, as well as working in PR in Indonesia. Since joining the club she's written for the likes of Frieze Art Fair, Hive and OMD. She’s also appeared as an actress in a number of films, and Dame Doughnut in panto. Oh yes she did.
Dan Nixon
Before joining Writing Club in 2020, Dan has been a musician, a butcher and a gig promoter. He started his writing career at Phones 4u, before going on to become head of content at Cube3 in Manchester. Dan’s currently doing an MA in poetry – and you can still find him playing gigs if you’re lucky.
Jamie Rigg
Jamie started out as a journalist, before switching pharmacy punditry and consumer tech opinion pieces for snappy headlines and world-conquering tone of voices.
Jamie also writes screenplays and radio pieces. He’s been working with Writing Club since 2022.
Aimee Francis
Before Writing Club, Aimée wrote for indie lifestyle magazines before venturing into advertising. She’s worked in both agencies and freelance for clients like Historic Royal Palaces, Microsoft and British Gas. With an academic background in heritage management, you’ll often find her sighing over antiques she has no room for. If she wasn’t a copywriter, Aimée fancies herself as a potter.
Ruby Keeler
Ruby balances her time at Writing Club with her final year of university, where she’s studying Public Relations and Spanish. She recently spent a placement year doing Fashion PR internships for the likes of Christopher Kane and Mary Kantrantzou. She can write a mean press release and fit almost any piece of haute couture into the boot of an Uber.
Louis Crust
Growing up, Louis always dreamt of being a police dog - a dream he insists he’s not given up on yet. For now however, and for the past several years, writing has been the focus of his life.
He’s worked both brand and agency-side, with his latest role being at Waggel, where he led the creative copywriting and created their TOV. He ventured into the freelance world in 2022.
